Representing our HOA, I hired Jeff Davis to repair storm damage and replace the siding on our building with Hardie Plank - to the tune of about $60,000. Things started out well. Jeff was very professional, very responsive, and really did a great job of "stopping the bleeding" when we had water pouring into one of our units due to storm damage. As the emergency repairs progressed, it became apparent that it made the most sense to fast forward on our plans to replace the siding, so we moved ahead with the complete project then and there. As the project progressed and neared completion, it became very difficult to get Jeff and his crew to do what they said they were going to do. At the very end of the project, I provided Jeff with a "punch list" of items that were incomplete. He sent me a text saying "they're finishing up now". No - they weren't. I just paid another contractor about $1200 to clean up the mess Jeff and his crew left - that which could be cleaned up. There were painted areas that clearly only had one coat - a light coat - as the primer showed through the paint on 6 decks and one wall of a breezeway. Light fixtures and electrical outlet covers were not re-installed. So I had to pay someone else to do those things. Our building was painted a bright blue. There is bright blue paint spatter almost everywhere you look. There are deep ruts in the grass where the lift was parked during wet weather. Jeff told me he would fix that. He didn't. Jeff also installed windows for several of our homeowners during this project. These were individual jobs, as opposed to the larger job that was done for the HOA. (Windows are individual owners' responsibility). The old windows were removed and new windows were installed. They look great from the outside. But on the inside, Jeff and his crew reinstalled the old window casings, did not do any caulking or trim work. They said that was not part of the deal. I would expect any contractor installing windows to leave only when they look like new - inside and out. Jeff and his crew did have some difficult encounters with a couple of the tenants in our building; and Jeff did do a lot to save me and all the homeowners money when he could. But those things do not excuse the poor end result due to failure to attend to the finishing details. When homeowners invest $60,000 in a renovation, they expect it to be pristine upon completion, with no cracked walls, unfinished windows, paint spattered everywhere and ruts in the yard. Things started out really well with Jeff and his crew, but the end result was a huge disappointment.To add insult to injury, Jeff said that he was not paid everything he was owed. He was. After several conversations about it, I did the math, and spelled it out for him, line by line, outlining the payments he had received against the quote I was provided. I got no response after that - not even to indicate that he agreed or disagreed with me. Very unprofessional and unreliable in the end.I would not recommend him for any job.
